Growing a greener future: Re Jala Peo leads tree planting in Maun schools

In a powerful step toward environmental awareness and community resilience, Re Jala Peo has launched a tree-planting initiative in schools across Maun and surrounding villages. The project, aimed at promoting climate education and sustainability, involves club members, teachers, and local volunteers working together to plant indigenous and fruit trees in schoolyards and public spaces.

“We want children to understand that they are part of the solution,” said our tree planting coordinator One. “Planting a tree is an act of hope for shade, for cleaner air, and for the future.”

Over the past two years, Re Jala Peo adopted several primary and junior secondary schools to introduce the importance of trees preventing soil erosion, and improving biodiversity. The initiative also teaches practical gardening skills and encourages long-term care of the planted trees.

In addition to schools, tree planting has extended to community areas across Maun, with local residents joining efforts to green their neighbourhoods. The organization provides seedlings, tools, and ongoing support to ensure the trees thrive.

“This is not just about planting trees, it’s about planting values,” said one of our coordinators. “Students are learning responsibility, teamwork, and care for the environment.”

The initiative is part of Re Jala Peo’s broader mission to create sustainable, community-led change through education, environmental stewardship, and youth empowerment.
