A Celebration of Learning and Leadership: Re Jala Peo’s 5th Environmental Awareness Conference Shined Bright in Maun

Re Jala Peo proudly hosted its 5th Environmental Awareness Conference about Bird Migration and Christmas Market on 29 November 2025 at Maun Lodge. It was an unforgettable day where Junior Rangers’ nature conservation learning and Aflatoun’s entrepreneurship education came together in the most inspiring way.

With more than 500 guests in attendance, including all our club members, parents, educators, stakeholders and supporters from across Maun, the hall was filled with excitement, pride and, at moments, even a few happy tears. As we watched our young participants take the stage, it became clear: our club members are shining brighter than ever.

Junior Rangers Take Flight with “Bird Migration”

Throughout Term 3, our Junior Ranger members explored the fascinating world of bird migration: discovering why birds travel such long distances, how they navigate the skies, and what challenges they face along the way.
Their presentations showcased not only their knowledge, but also their growing confidence. Their passion lit up the room and reminded us all why environmental education matters.

Aflatoun Learners Show Their Power as Young Entrepreneurs

In the Aflatoun Social and Financial Education Program, club members developed essential skills such as saving, planning, teamwork and entrepreneurship. These skills came to life on stage through creative performances and during the Christmas Market, where learners presented and sold eco-friendly products made from recycled materials.

Both the conference and the market beautifully embodied the spirit of the Dinaledi Project, our initiative dedicated to helping children “shine like stars” while building a greener, healthier and happier Botswana together.

A Hall Full of Stars and Support

Seeing so many parents in the audience, fully engaged and cheering on their children, was one of the highlights of the day.
Strengthening parental involvement has long been a goal for Re Jala Peo, and this year’s conference showed just how far we have come. The energy, love and support in the room were overwhelming in the most beautiful way.

Christmas Market Success

During the breaks, visitors explored the club members’ Christmas Market, where they sold their handmade, eco-friendly gifts.
These young social entrepreneurs proudly explained their products and prices, demonstrating the real-world impact of financial education.

Guest Speakers and Performances

The children’s performances were interwoven with inspiring talks from bird lovers and conservationists Pat Melatsi and Charles Mpofu of the Wild Bird Trust, as well as representatives from DWNP. We also enjoyed a fantastic performance by Magic Beans. Everything was beautifully tied together by our wonderful MCs, all proudly chosen from our own club members. After all, it is their conference!

Awards and Appreciation

At the end of the conference, Re Jala Peo management, Thato and Letso, presented awards for outstanding contributions throughout the year:

  • Best Trainer of the Year: Keneetswe
  • Best Coordinator of the Year: Mamo of Mathiba Primary School
  • Top 3 Schools, with Sedia Primary School taking first place and proudly taking home the floating trophy
