Global Money Week inspires financial wisdom in Maun students

This year’s Global Money Week brought together 53 enthusiastic participants from 15 schools across Maun for a wonderful celebration of financial education. Representing their schools were Junior Rangers and Aflatoun Club members, joined by coordinators and trainers for a full day of learning and fun.

The event opened with an inspiring keynote speech from Mr. Aubrey of Okavango Gin, who shared valuable insights on budgeting, saving, and the difference between needs and wants. His practical advice struck a chord with the young audience, setting an empowering tone for the day.

A major highlight was the bottle cap collection competition, designed to mirror the rewards of consistent saving. Among schools with 20 club members, Letsholathebe PS claimed first place with 702 caps, followed by Mathiba PS (621) and Sedie JSS (34). In the 10-member category, Gxhabara PS led with an impressive 1,542 caps, ahead of Thito PS (1,171) and Moremi Special Needs (865). Winners were celebrated in a lively ceremony, reinforcing the event’s message that discipline, and commitment bring real rewards.

The celebration wrapped up with a fun, money-themed game that reinforced financial concepts through interactive play. But the learning doesn’t end there, club members are now tasked with sharing their new knowledge in school assemblies and club sessions, ensuring the message continues to spread through peer-to-peer education.

As students begin their personal saving journeys, the experience has planted the seeds for lifelong financial habits, proving once again that it’s never too early to start learning how to manage money wisely.
